Stefano Fabeni joined the Global Rights staff in March 2006, where he is responsible for the daily implementation of the LGBTI initiative. In that capacity, he coordinates program outreach with Washington and field-based program staff, oversees financial and administrative obligations for the program, monitors international development and human rights trends in the area, and interfaces with a wide range of advocacy organizations and international institutions.

Previously, Mr. Fabeni served as the Italian member of the European Group of Experts on Combating Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation. He was the conceiver and the coordinator of the EU funded project CERSGOSIG-InformaGay, and is still the project's director of the center for research and legal comparative studies on sexual orientation and gender identity, running the center's legal database on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Mr. Fabeni has served for several years as a pro bono legal advisor and consultant of the New Rights Department of the national trade union Confederazione Generale Italiana del Lavoro (Italian Labor General Confederation). Mr. Fabeni also has served as a consultant and legal expert for institutions, consultancy firms and NGOs throughout Europe. He is the author of several bills introduced to the Italian Parliament in the XIV and XV legislatures, namely on transgender rights, legal recognition of same sex and de facto couples, and anti-discrimination legislation. He has written several articles on LGBTI issues and often is asked to speak on the subject.
